Got a Droid X

Last week I finally got my Droid X! This is my first Android based phone and I have to say I’m loving it. I’ve used a few BlackBerries and a couple of Windows Mobile phones in the past, but nothing that had the power and options that this Droid X has. I’m still going through and finding the apps that I want, but I think this will be a great tool.

Currently there are two things that I do not really like. First, I bought a holster for the phone, but it has a cover that goes on the phone itself. In most instances that would be fine because it will help protect the phone, but with the case on it won’t fit into the docks. So you have to remove the case to place the phone in a dock. That is a big pain, but it looks like Seidio is working on some holsters that the phone will just snap into. The second thing I do not like at the moment is I haven’t found a way to use a Cisco VPN. We use Cisco gear at work and it would be nice to be able to VPN into work using the phone (for emergencies only!). I’m sure someone will come up with a way sometime, but I haven’t seen it yet.

Other than those two things, I’ve been really impressed by this phone. I was a little concerned about battery life, but once I stopped playing with it all day long it seems to last most of the day without any problems. I will be keeping a micro USB cable handy though for the mid-day charging if needed.
